Barriers to happiness, spelled out

I'm back, with the Sanskrit and more detail on Yoga's 5 barriers to happiness, or the Kleshas (thanks to Molly at Samarya Center for her excellent essay on the Kleshas in the recent e-newsletter):
  • Avidya, lack of knowledge
  • Asmita, ego or "I-am" ness
  • Raga, desire
  • Dvesha, aversion
  • Abinivesha, fear of death or clinging to life
Fear, desire, attachment, aversion, trying to control. Sounds like a menu of what happens in a bad day at the office.

What's the alternative? The answers I have are deceptively easy to recommend, and yet a life's work to live out: trust, being in the moment, being at peace with what is, moving forward without grasping. Yet the way, grasshopper, seems to be messily through the barriers for most people and not neatly around them.
